RE: Happy Trails

You not only said it, you said it right out loud!!:S Good for you though. If your rig looks good the age should not come into play.

RE: sink in bedroom

Our Regals bathroom is downstairs in it's own separate room. For some reason they decided to place a small sink in the bedroom but it is basically user unfriendly so we never use it. As for the standard 5vr bathroom set-up with the middle bath we've seen those with the sink located in the bedroom and wouldn't have one ourselves.

Super job. Now I just gotta make sure Diane doesn't see these pics or my honey-do list will grow out of site. Enjoy.

RE: Well we have went and done it! update 7-17

Congratulations and welcome to the wonderful world of full-timing. We've been living on our property in our 5vr for over a year now waiting for SIL to retire from Coast Guard and for them to move in. The house has basically been a laundry facility for us, the 5vr is our home. Just waiting on the appropriate time to leave although as long as they remain on the farm we'll have the site we're on available to us. Yes you can full-time without leaving. Take full advantage of the opportunity you have to learn as much about your rig and what you really need for full-timing.

RE: Casino Camping - what are casinos doing to attract you?

Can't remember when the last time was that we paid for a campsite in Tunica. Get offers for free sites every month.

RE: Living in a class A (dumb or not?)

I think it's a very doable idea but as others have suggested I would suggest considering a 5vr. We are living in ours even though we still have a small 7 acre farm which is still mortgaged. In our situation our daughter and her family have moved into the house and are basically renting it from us. At some point in time they will probably buy it outright. Otherwise we will sell it and hope the housing market has gotten better. At the present time I am still employed fulltime and we're set up in one of two fulltime sites I built on our property. We have found that the RV life even in our situation enjoyable and fully intend to continue it after I retire. If you cannot sell due to the current economic situation I would highly suggest looking into renting out your house and moving into an RV of your choice so you can see if the RV lifestyle is right for you. If you've followed this forum you'll know that there are many who have tried and decided that it was not for them.

RE: fulltime ish?

We're living in our 5vr on our own property on one of two full hookup sites I built. We wouldn't think of putting it up on blocks since that would defeat the idea of living in an RV for us. We still pull out and travel but return here since I haven't retired yet. When I do retire we will still use the site as a home base since daughter and her family took over the farm. We are definitely enjoying our new lifestyle and fully intend to keep it up after retirement.

RE: Non-retired full timers

We have been fulltiming for about a year now. I still work fulltime. We are presently set up on one of two full hookup sites that I built on our 7 acre farm here in middle TN. We plan on keeping TN as our home of record and will have the site here available whenever we desire. Daughter and her family took over the house so the farm will stay in the family. Tossing around the idea of retiring next Mar. Our situation has worked out well for us in that we've had time to get accustomed to fulltiming before hitting the road. Living here in middle TN has also showed us that we can live in cooler climates if desired. We've really enjoyed our first year and are looking forward to many more.

IMHO,yes it would make an interesting side trip. Interesting rock formations. Also a lot of beautiful scenery in that area.

RE: The full-time dream......

Definitely agree with your outlook. Although I'm not retired yet and we can't travel extensively we moved into our 5vr about a year ago and are anxiously awaiting the future. We are literally looking out at our backyard since we are presently parked in a full hookup site on our property. We pull out and take short trips whenever possible. The house is empty awaiting the arrival of our daughter and her family this weekend. After they are set up we've talked about moving to a local campground and workkamping for a while to build up a resume. My hours would easily allow this. Our present setup provides us with a campground type feeling. We really enjoy the 5vr and can't see us moving back into a stick house anytime soon. Always enjoy reading your commentaries. Keep up the good work.

RE: Do these stairs look funny to you?

Enough alcohol and they'll straighten out. Otherwise tell everybody that you paid big bucks for these custom spiral stairs.:B

RE: Where do RVs fit into a vacation plan???

For us it all depends on the situation and the time restraints due to my work schedule. In early Apr. we took a 6 day vacation to Las Vegas & Laughlin. Would have loved to take the 5vr but that would have added 3 days minimum onto either end of our trip. As it was we flew out, had gotten cheap fares, rented a car and spent 3 days in each place, hotel rooms were comped by Harrahs. This weekend Diane has a 2 day Arts and Crafts Festival about 2 hours from here and we're taking the house with us and spending three days there. If we have the time we'll take the 5vr.

RE: Choice of two campgrounds??

Have stayed at Twin Creek and highly recommend it when spending majority of your time in Gatlinburg. Never stayed at Creekside but checked it out and it's a very nice looking park. Personally we prefer Claboughs in Pigeon Forge as it provides a more rustic feel especially in the spots further back. All are on the trolley route and have stops either in the park or right outside. Definitely recommend using the trolley where possible but also need to warn against using it between Gatlinburg and PF. You have to change trolleys half way and the long lines and waits can be excruciating.

RE: fridge stopped cooling HELP!!!!

Check the back of the fridge. If there is a yellow residue and/or the smell of amonia be prepared to buy a new one as your cooling unit has failed. Been there, done that.

RE: Best cell phone coverage

After having Cingular for years we saw our coverage drop to almost zero when they were taken over by AT&T. Switched to Verizon and are happy with it. Even use their air card. Using it right now as a matter of fact.

RE: trailers a rockin' ???

We use homemade rotochocks along with kingpin stabilizer. I also added an extra set of scissor jacks just behind the rear tires. Most movement is gone.
